What is Fast ForWord?

Fast ForWord is a groundbreaking series of engaging computer exercises crafted by neuroscientists. Designed to enhance the brain's processing efficiency and expedite learning, Fast ForWord caters to individuals aged 5yrs through to adulthood.

At its core, Fast ForWord focuses on strengthening essential cognitive functions such as memory, attention, processing rates, and sequencing. Through interactive and enjoyable exercises, participants engage in skill-building, and honing their reading and language abilities.

The program's initial modules target foundational skills, equipping learners with the necessary tools to navigate the complexities of language and literacy. As participants progress, they seamlessly transition into the Reading Series, where the focus intensifies on refining processing efficiency and cultivating critical reading and language skills.

What sets Fast ForWord apart is its evidence-based approach, drawing on the latest findings in neuroscience to optimise learning outcomes. By harnessing the brain's remarkable plasticity, Fast ForWord empowers learners to overcome obstacles and unleash their full potential, regardless of age or starting point.

Who can benefit from the program?

Backed by over 300 independent studies, Fast ForWord consistently delivers significant gains in performance, with an average advancement of 1-2 years across all populations studied.

Who can benefit from the program?

  • Individuals diagnosed with Dyslexia: Fast ForWord targets the underlying cognitive processes involved in reading difficulties, such as auditory processing, phonological awareness, and language processing, helping individuals with dyslexia improve their reading accuracy, fluency, and comprehension.

  • Individuals diagnosed with ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder): Fast ForWord is designed to enhance attention, memory, and processing speed, which are common challenges in individuals with ADHD. Fast ForWord enables individuals with ADHD to focus more effectively, organise their thoughts, and regulate their behaviour.

  • Individuals with Working Memory Difficulties: Fast ForWord includes exercises specifically aimed at improving working memory, which is crucial for holding and manipulating information in the mind while completing tasks. By challenging working memory capacity through progressively more complex tasks, the program helps individuals expand their working memory capacity and enhance their ability to learn, reason, and problem-solve effectively.

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): While Fast ForWord is not a treatment for autism itself, it can help alleviate some of the cognitive and language challenges associated with the condition. The program's focus on language processing, auditory discrimination, and comprehension can benefit individuals with ASD who may struggle with communication and language skills.

  • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI): Fast ForWord offers a structured and intensive approach to cognitive rehabilitation, which can be beneficial for individuals recovering from traumatic brain injury. The program targets various cognitive functions, including attention, memory, processing speed, and language skills, helping to rebuild and strengthen neural connections in the brain.

  • Individuals with Executive Functioning Challenges: Enhances organisation, planning, time management, and self-regulation by improving cognitive flexibility and problem-solving abilities.

  • Individuals with Speech and Language Difficulties: Boosts auditory discrimination, phonological awareness, and speech production skills.

  • English Language Learners: Improves vocabulary, grammar, and overall language proficiency.

  • Adults: Fast ForWord is not limited to children and adolescents; it can also be valuable for adults seeking to improve their reading, language, and cognitive skills.

Developing Social and Emotional Skills

Fast ForWord isn't just about reading—it's about boosting social and emotional development too. By targeting language processing, the program helps individuals better understand social cues, manage emotions, and form positive relationships.

Here’s How:

  • Facilitating Communication: By automating language processing, Fast ForWord helps individuals better understand conversations, interpret social cues, and express themselves effectively. This improved communication ability fosters more meaningful interactions and connections with others.

  • Emotional Regulation: Enhanced language processing enables individuals to better comprehend and express their emotions. As a result, they can more effectively identify, manage, and communicate their feelings, leading to improved emotional regulation and resilience.

  • Building Confidence: As language processing becomes more efficient, individuals experience increased confidence in their ability to engage in social interactions. This boost in self-assurance encourages them to participate more actively in social situations, contributing to a positive feedback loop of social engagement and confidence-building.

  • Developing Empathy: Improved language processing allows individuals to better understand others' perspectives and empathise with their emotions. This heightened empathy facilitates deeper and more meaningful connections with others, fostering stronger interpersonal relationships.

  • Enhancing Social Problem-Solving: By honing language and cognitive skills, Fast ForWord equips individuals with the tools to navigate social challenges and conflicts more effectively. They can better understand social situations, anticipate consequences, and develop appropriate solutions, leading to improved social problem-solving abilities.
